Resident Member RRC Thoracic Surgery
The resident member of the RRC for Thoracic Surgery (RRC) will be selected by the RRC from nominations submitted by the Thoracic Surgery Resident Association (TSRA).
Position description:
This is an apolitical position designed to solicit resident opinion with respect to educational policy and to educate the resident about the accreditation process. Residents are considered full RRC members who vote on policy matters, review up to 3 programs per meeting and serve as a member of the ACGME Resident Council. The resident member will be required to attend the ACGME Orientation Program for new RRC members prior to their first RRC meeting (usually in February annually) and is required to attend two RRC meetings annually, i.e., January and July. The resident applicant must be free to attend these meetings and to devote the preparatory time required for the position. Travel and meeting expenses will be reimbursed by the ACGME.
Qualifications:
- a surgery resident, currently in good standing, admitted to an ACGME accredited thoracic surgery program (the nominee may not be from the same institution as any member of the RRC)
- a letter of support for the required release time must be submitted by the program director
- if elected, the resident member is held to the ACGME confidentiality and conflict of interest policies, as any other RRC member
Application:
The resident should submit the following documents under one cover by May 1, 2009:
- a letter of recommendation and statement of support from the program director
- curriculum vitae
- a letter from the resident outlining his or her educational goals, professional interests, and intent to serve if elected
Documents received after the deadline date will not be accepted.
