San Joaquin General Hospital, French Camp, CA

Nominators had this to say:

We are a county hospital that cares for indigent patients. Many of our patients have not sought out health care for many years and, as a result, have many clinical problems. Dr. Kapre is empathetic and spends many hours listening to their needs, whether they are medical or emotional, and then acts on those concerns. As residents, we have learned so much from watching her interact with patients. Patients may be angry, apprehensive, or simply not care, but Dr. Kapre always finds a way to reach out to them.

Not only is Dr. Kapre a great educator and a trusted mentor, but she is also an effective leader.  She is involved in many aspects of hospital administration and spends time reaching out to the doctors in our community, forming strong liaisons and encouraging continuity of care.  She finds and implements innovative ideas that ensure a great working environment, and more importantly, exceptional patient care and service.  She will round with social workers, work with the physical therapists, and find ways to help the administrative staff.

Dr. Kapre is not just our Program Director, she is our friend. All the residents and attending staff see her as someone to confide in and someone to go to in times of need. One of her most valuable qualities is her capacity to listen. She never judges – she just listens. She appreciates our opinions and encourages exploration. Her medical knowledge combined with her true love of helping people has shaped us into competent and caring physicians.  What we have learned from her is invaluable and will endure throughout our professional career. It is very difficult to put into words the wonderful effect she has on the residents and staff of San Joaquin General Hospital.
