Nominators had this to say:

I am writing this letter in support of the tireless efforts of Dr. Schuh, my program director, to educate and improve the lives of her neurology residents and fellows. Since the beginning of my residency and even before, Dr. Schuh has been hard at work to improve our educational curriculum. She has created weekly quiz sessions, which we lovingly refer to as “The War,” in which we review chapters from selected texts of neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, etc. We divided into two teams and the highest point score at the end of the course receives an extra vacation day. Though the casual observer might be frightened by our enthusiasm, most people would agree that there has never been a better motivation for residents to study. After we take a final examination, Dr. Schuh posts the winning team, but always gives little awards for things like “most improved” scorer.

Her most recent endeavor has been to improve the educational quality of one of our busiest rotations, the Neurology Consult team.  Based on the feedback she had compiled from our newly instituted monthly rotation evaluations, she devised a way to put two neurology residents on the team rather than one—to allow for more teaching time and less stress.  But I guess that’s what Dr. Schuh consistently does; she works everyday to make things better for us and our program.  This year, as always, I continue to be impressed by Dr. Schuh’s skill as a director, clinician, and friend.  It is my honor to be considered her colleague, and I sincerely hope that she receives the recognition she truly deserves.
