Jessica Bienstock, MD, MPH

Dr. Jessica Bienstock is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and the designated institutional official (DIO) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also a professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Prior to her current position, she was the Medical Student Clerkship Director for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins for seven years, as well as the residency program director for 16 years.

Dr. Bienstock currently serves as a leader both for Johns Hopkins and for residency and fellowship training programs around the country. She is the Chair of the ACGME Review Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as the Chair of the ACGME Council of Review Committee Chairs (CRCC). She was a member of the ACGME Common Program Requirements Phase 1 Task Force (2015-2017), and is currently a member of the ACGME Common Program Requirements Phase 2 Task Force. She also serves on the ACGME Task Force on Physician Well-Being. She led the development and piloting of the Milestones for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Within her specialty, Dr. Bienstock serves on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) Leadership Committee, and is the past-chair of the CREOG Education Committee. Within both CREOG and the ACGME, she teaches annually at each organization’s programs for new residency program directors. She is a senior oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Bienstock’s clinical work focuses on the management of women with high-risk pregnancies. Her work gained national recognition when she cared for the first reported long-term survivor of fetal bilateral renal agenesis treated with serial amnioinfusion and who has since successfully undergone renal transplantation. This work has changed the treatment options offered to families facing this previously uniformly fatal fetal diagnosis.
