Kenneth J. Veit, DO, MBA, FACOFP

Since 1992, Dr. Kenneth Veit has been the Dean and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). In 2009, he was given the additional title of Provost. PCOM is now a highly integrated health care professional university on three campuses offering multiple professional degrees in addition to the core DO degree. Prior to these positions, he served the college in various capacities including Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education and the Director of PCOM’s Community Health Care Centers, that functions as the primary teaching outpatient care clinics of the college. He is a long-term professor in the department of family medicine and continues to actively teach. He conducts weekly patient care sessions in PCOM’s clinics.

Prior to his affiliation with PCOM, Dr. Veit was the Chief Medical Officer for Region 3 of the USPHS. He also served for four years in the National Health Service Corp in a HPSA site in rural central Pennsylvania. Dr. Veit earned his DO degree from PCOM in 1976, post graduate training at the Staten Island Public Health Service Hospital and received the MBA degree from Temple University in 1989. He is board certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine and a current Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Dr Veit served a year as the original AACOM invited participate with ACGME during the preimplementation phase of the historical MOU agreement. Dr. Veit is currently serving in his second term of HRSA’s COGME, a federal advisory commission on GME.

Dr. Veit’s academic interest includes all aspects of medical education and health care delivery. He has published and participated in multiple national and regional studies regarding best medical education practices. He has been a member of AOA Council of Pre-Doctoral Education and chair of the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). He is a prior Chair of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) and a repeat chair of AACOM concluding in 2014. Dr. Veit recently delegated his PCOM’s voting position on AACOM BOT to an alternate PCOM leader. Dr. Veit participates in numerous Macy conferences on medical education. He remains active with the osteopathic state association (POMA) and with the AOA.
