Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is there a limit to the number of participants each organization can have participate?
Answer:

Each participating organization will be asked to have a core team of three to five people available to attend the monthly engagements. Teams that are chosen to participate will be asked to formally register these individuals once the application process closes.

Question: Can individuals apply?
Answer:

This program is not designed for individuals. Rather, it is intended to support institutions in making organizational changes, which the ACGME believes is best accomplished in collaboration. To that end interested individual applicants are encouraged to seek out relevant partners within their organization that could be part of the learning, development, implementation, and sustainability of efforts designed by participating in the program. This could be a vertical team of program, department, and organizational roles or a more horizontal team that includes department and program leaders.

Question: What are the criteria for creating interprofessional teams?
Answer:

This program is designed for teams at organizations that sponsor medical residency and fellowship programs. The goal is for those groups to develop interventions that address gaps in recruitment of a diverse workforce and cultivate inclusive learning environment practices to sustain retention. Another option would be that an organization creates an interprofessional team that includes graduate medical education professionals. If participating in the Learning Community program is not possible for this cycle, the ACGME Equity Matters® educational videos are available to all health professionals through the ACGME’s online learning portal, Learn at ACGME. Note: A free account is required to access these resources.

Question: What additional costs are not included in the program fee?
Answer:

All Learning Community sessions are conducted virtually. The only other costs would be travel-related (flights and accommodations) for teams to participate in the 2025 ACGME Equity Matters Symposium at which capstone projects will be presented, and participants will engage in shared learning about timely topics. The ACGME Equity Matters Symposium is a two-day event that will take place at the ACGME office in Chicago, Illinois.
