The ACGME is honored to recognize the 2026 recipients of the ACGME Awards! The ACGME Awards recognize notable individuals, programs, and organizations for their outstanding work and contributions to graduate medical education.

This groundbreaking event brought together 90 leaders in graduate and undergraduate medical education, practicing physicians, and disability advocates to address persistent barriers and develop strategies for improving physician education and training in caring for patients with disabilities.

The ACGME proudly announces the retirement of Chief Education Officer and Special Advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer Timothy P. Brigham, MDiv, MS, PhD. Dr. Brigham has been a guiding force in shaping graduate medical education (GME), advancing faculty development, and championing physician well-being for almost two decades.

The majority of these physicians are international medical graduates (IMGs), encompassing both foreign nationals and U.S. citizens who completed their medical education and training outside the United States and Canada.

The ACGME recently unveiled a new learning resource designed to support the mental health and well-being of residents and others in the clinical learning environment during key transitional phases.

A recent study published in JAMA Surgery revealed that “ACGME Milestone ratings of “graduating vascular surgeons may be predictive of those surgeons’ risk-adjusted patient outcomes in their early career following a common vascular operation.”

ACGME President and CEO Dr. Thomas J. Nasca joins NAM President Dr. Victor J. Dzau in encouraging others to join NAM’s new initiative to mobilize all health sector organizations and accelerate the national climate and health movement. 

The ACGME, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) are requesting your input on a first draft of the foundational competencies for undergraduate medical education.
