Lynne Kirk, MD, MACP will join the ACGME to lead efforts related to the review of residency and fellowship programs. She will begin this new position in September.

The ACGME today hosted the fifth public meeting of the National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience focused on “Redesigning the Clinical Learning Environment.”

These resources are designed to support and promote wellness in the clinical learning environment. They support the elements of Section VI of the Common Program Requirements, which emphasize psychological, emotional, and physical well-being.

These resources were compiled to support local efforts to improve resident, fellow, and faculty member well-being and help physicians in distress as part of the ACGME's commitment to promoting physican well-being.

Teams of Pathway Innovators and Pathway Leaders attended Learning Sessions to share their experiences and advance the projects they initiated at their institutions.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has released a video featuring ACGME President and CEO Thomas J. Nasca, MD, MACP, AAMC President and CEO Darrell G. Kirch, MD, and National Academy of Medicine President Victor J. Dzau, MD.

ACGME CEO Dr. Nasca explores recent statistics on resident deaths reported in Academic Medicine and offers strategies and interventions for programs to follow in supporting learner and faculty member well-being year round.

Nine Pathway Leaders will form a Patient Safety Collaborative focused on creating and testing a framework for residents and fellows to engage with their learning environments in promoting a culture of safety.

The ACGME released its 2016-2017 Data Resource Book, which includes data on the size, scope, and distribution of graduate medical education in the US. Data shows residents in ACGME pipeline programs increased 20 percent over the last 10 years.

Thirty proposals were selected for their ability to enhance the resident/fellow-patient connection, and foster joy and meaning in work. A total of $130,000 at different funding levels will be awarded, renewable up to two years.
