The ACGME is pleased to report that all 32 residents from Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC) in Wheeling, West Virginia have accepted offers to transfer to other ACGME-accredited programs where they will continue their education.

Christina Baxter Vernace, DO, Angelina Bernier, MD, Mary Catherine Hart, Lindsay Thompson, MD, and Keiaria Williams of University of Florida Health Shands Children’s Hospital are recognized with the 2023 David C. Leach Award.

This award recognizes program directors who have fostered innovation and improvement in their residency programs and served as exemplary role models for residents.

2022 David C. Leach Awardee Nupur Sharma, MD, is a PGY-4 resident in pathology at Vidant Medical Center/East Carolina University. 

ACGME Manager, Employee Communications Emily Vasiliou wrote about her experience attending the ACGME's annual Awards Retreat for recipients of the Courage to Lead and Courage to Teach Awards for the first time in 10 years.

2023 David C. Leach Awardee Dr. David Ray Velez is a PGY-5 resident in surgery at the University of North Dakota.

John V. Pamula, MD, FACP, led a quality improvement project focused on reducing burnout and increasing well-being among its residents. His poster, Multipronged Strategies to Improve Wellbeing and Work-Life Balance of Residents, was presented at the 2019 Annual Educational Conference, Engaging Each Other: Rediscovering Meaning in Medicine.

2022-2024 Jeremiah A. Barondess Fellow Danielle L. Clark, MD is a hospitalist, assistant professor of medicine, and associate program director for the internal medicine residency program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Clark specializes in internal medicine.

Twenty-five individuals and two institutions were honored at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference. Timothy C. Flynn, MD, FACS, received the John C. Gienapp Distinguished Service Award. This is the first time in six years the award has been given.

Brooks J. Obr, MD, MME's poster, “The Paradox of Resident Physician Leadership Education: ‘It’s very important and I’m already quite satisfied with my skill set,’” presented at the 2020 ACGME Annual Educational Conference, explores residents’ and fellows’ attitudes toward leadership education.
