Physician well-being has been a key issue for the ACGME for as long as the organization has been serving the GME community.

Timing the launch of this blog with our Annual Educational Conference might just be kismet, because the theme of this year’s conference, Engaging Each Other: Transformation through Collaboration, speaks to the goal of tuning in and work together, to gather and initiate growth and change.

In a more personal President’s Plenary at #ACGME2024, and his last as ACGME President and CEO, Dr. Thomas Nasca discussed many issues facing graduate medical education, all viewed through the lens of trust.

The ACGME’s and medical community’s prioritization of physician well-being made the issue a central of theme at the 2018 Annual Educational Conference. Gender-Specific Challenges in Burnout, a session led by speakers Carol Bernstein, MD and Kimberly Templeton, MD, explored a variety of factors that contribute specifically to the risk of burnout and differences between what men and women face in this arena.

In conjunction with the 2024 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in Orlando, Florida, the ACGME hosted a unique, community-centered event called ACGME Paving the Path to Medicine: Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Jamie Arsenyevictz, MPH, led a team at Geisinger Health System to develop a GME analysis tool, leading to the development of shared language and knowledge surrounding GME finance and value between the GME Office and Geisinger leadership.
