Request for Input on First Draft of the Foundational Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Education

January 23, 2024

The ACGME, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) are requesting your input on a first draft of the foundational competencies for undergraduate medical education. Please use the survey link to review the draft competencies and provide your input by February 12, 2024.

BACKGROUND
This work is part of a multi-year initiative led by the ACGME, AAMC, and AACOM to create a common set of foundational competencies for use in undergraduate medical education programs in the United States. This initiative aligns with recommendations outlined in the Undergraduate Medical Education-Graduate Medical Education Review Committee (UGRC) and is part of a comprehensive effort to improve the transition to residency.

The ACGME, AAMC, and AACOM have engaged thought leaders from across academic medicine and have collected input from more than 1,000 medical professionals, students, and patients. After months of analysis and in consultation with a distinguished advisory group, a project working group is now sharing this iterative draft and soliciting input from the community. Your perspective is indispensable in creating the Foundational Competencies.

All feedback must be received by February 12, 2024. Review the competencies and provide feedback here.
