If you’ve never before been, you might wonder what you can learn at the ACGME Annual Educational Conference. What’s this conference about, really? The answer is: more than you might think.

First, the conference is about accreditation, of course. It’s a great opportunity to learn the latest in ACGME accreditation initiatives. And because the conference is attended by more than 3,000 graduate medical education (GME) educators across the spectrum of GME, you’ll have the chance to interact not only with ACGME staff members, but also with your peers—people who have been there and who can discuss with you what works and what doesn’t.

The conference is also about essential initiatives the ACGME and others in GME are working on beyond the direct scope of accreditation. Physician well-being, for example. Multiple sessions will help you understand the pressures your residents and fellows face, so you can be ready to respond to issues with insight, appropriateness, and care, creating a positive and healthy learning environment for all. Other sessions discussing physicians’ response to the opioid epidemic will help you and your students navigate the crisis with confidence.

Third, this conference is about networking; the Annual Educational Conference is a place with abundant opportunities for truly productive networking. Constant effort is made in ways large and small to create a feeling of comradery and respect that allows you to collaborate with designated institutional officials, program directors, coordinators, and ACGME leaders and staff members in a comfortable, supportive environment. And the chance to get to know people within and outside your own specialty can expand your career horizons in ways you may not have considered.

Perhaps most important of all, this conference is about education. Countless sessions focus on the latest improvements in GME. Outstanding speakers provide unique insights. Seasoned professionals discuss their successes and failures. New attendees offer fresh, invaluable perspectives. Everything about this conference is dedicated to helping you improve your approach to teaching and learning.

We hope you will join us at a conference that’s all about graduate medical education, networking, and solving problems—and about helping you become a better educator. We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
