This year’s meeting will showcase innovations, foster collaboration, and support the vision of the ACGME’s Sponsoring Institution 2025 initiative. Sessions led by ACGME staff members will thoroughly explore new and ongoing ACGME initiatives and programs, and address challenges and successes in transformational leadership of GME and clinical learning environments.
The ACGME is pleased to announce its selection of 10 Sponsoring Institutions that will test the first modular component of the new Clinical Learning Environment Toolkit for Formative Assessment. The toolkit’s first module will address the CLER Focus Area of Patient Safety.

The toolkit, which is one of four components of CLER Program future directions, will provide clinical learning environment executive and GME leaders with a framework with which they can continuously conduct their own assessment of all their clinical learning environments to identify improvement opportunities, innovate, and monitor performance in the CLER Focus Areas. Use of the toolkit is voluntary, and its use is intended to complement, rather than replicate, the CLER site visit process.
The ACGME's Clinician Educator Journal Club is a monthly online meeting on the third Thursday of each month gathering together current and future clinician educators, authors, and ACGME staff members to discuss the latest journal articles and timely topics in medical education.

In July, the ACGME and Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation announced a partnership to present the Catalyst Awards for Transformation in Graduate Medical Education. For the third cycle of the Catalyst Awards, selected projects will receive up to $100,000 over 18 months. Successful proposals will design, implement, and evaluate innovative strategies to equip learners with tools, skills, and approaches to help them thrive in the clinical learning environment.
The application portal is open, and all applications are due by Friday, September 20.
The ACGME hosts a monthly virtual interest group session for GME community members involved in addressing the needs of MUA/Ps, which are places or communities with groups of people who have unmet health or health care needs.

During these sessions, participants will provide information about efforts in GME and MUA/P, solve for common challenges, and share helpful resources. After 10 years of the Milestones, the ACGME is in the process of a major program evaluation that includes interviews and surveys, the outcomes of which will set the direction for changes to Milestones 3.0. A large multi-disciplinary program evaluation advisory committee is committed to publishing the results and a final report of the recommendations.
The ACGME seeks program directors, associate program directors, and Clinical Competency Committee members to participate in structured interviews regarding the Milestones. These interviews will be instrumental in helping the ACGME develop a national survey that will go to all program directors in early 2025.
The team particularly needs participants from the following specialties:

The IRC seeks four new members. Candidates must be current or previous DIOs who may be nominated by individuals, organizations, or themselves. The new members' term will begin July 1, 2025, and end June 30, 2031. Nominations must be received by September 30, 2024.

Public members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. Hawks and Doves in Standardized Letters of Evaluation: 6 Years of Rating Distributions and Trends in Emergency Medicine

Standardized letters of evaluation are an important part of resident selection in multiple specialties, and previous studies have demonstrated inflated ratings have occurred in at least a few specialties. The authors of this study found high variability in rating practices among institutions.
Application of Illness Scripts Theory to Climate Change Through a Multi-Residency Educational Symposium

This New Idea used illness scripts, a tool for developing and teaching clinical reasoning skills, to integrate climate change into medical education. Residents reported it as a promising strategy for improving education and care delivery for common medical conditions adversely affected by climate change.
Utilizing Resident Ambassadors as Mock CLER Site Team Members

The authors of this New Idea explored meaningful experiences for residents to learn about the ACGME's CLER Program walking rounds. They launched a pilot in which residents served as mock CLER site visitors.
This course is designed to help participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship. Sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including simulation practice, peer consultations, and application exercises to provide participants with methods and tools for effective assessment. The course also provides a roadmap for developing an assessment system to assist participants in implementing changes within their own institution.
To give participants maximum opportunity to participate, absorb, and apply course content, the fall/winter course is offered over two, three-day sessions:
