Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is one of four honorees receiving the ACGME’s Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2022. Dr. Aisha Barber, who serves as program director of the pediatric residency program and a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Steering Committee there answered the ACGME’s questions about the outstanding measures this program has taken to foster DEI.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), based in San Francisco, California, is one of four honorees receiving the ACGME’s Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2022.

The University of Washington (UW) and Seattle Children’s Hospital’s pediatric residency program in Seattle, Washington is one of four honorees receiving the ACGME’s Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2022. Program director (through February 2022) and Associate Dean of Curriculum Dr. Heather McPhillips answered the ACGME’s questions about the outstanding measures this program has taken to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Since fall 2020, the Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) has posted an ongoing call for manuscript submissions on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, and the response has already generated the beginnings of a collection that continues to grow.

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, located in Brooklyn, New York, is one of four honorees receiving the ACGME’s Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2022. Dr. Teresa Y. Smith is the institution’s designated institutional official and serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Affiliations.

ACGME Equity Matters provides a safe space for additional discussion and growth through monthly Learning Community meetings in which participants explore their new knowledge and experience with the initiative’s Fundamentals of DEI and anti-racism modules with physician subject matter experts, peer support, and advising.

In July 2021, and in support of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the ACGME proudly and formally announced ACGME Equity Matters^TM, a new initiative that introduces a framework for continuous learning and process improvement in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and anti-racism practices.
