The ACGME, in collaboration with several other medical education organizations, has released three toolkits to aid programs and learners as they progress through the medical education continuum from medical school to practice. The toolkits are not requirements and are meant to help guide programs and learners as they deal with disrupted years of education due to the pandemic.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, ACGME President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas J. Nasca, MD, MACP has written a letter to the community expressing his gratitude to the 700+ ACGME volunteers who have given their time, energy, and expertise to improving graduate medical education, and who continued that work despite numerous challenges during the two-year pandemic.
The ACGME offices are reopening this spring and the ACGME looks forward to welcoming volunteers and employees back into the building to convene in person after a long hiatus.

The ACGME will soon offer an additional Rural Track Program designation to coincide with an update to rural tracks in federal law and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) policy. This new designation will be available in May 2022 for already-accredited programs seeking to add a new rural track. More information about this new designation option will be available in the coming weeks on the Rural Tracks web page of the ACGME website.

The ACGME is forming an Advisory Group that will provide consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for medically underserved areas/populations (MUA/P) and GME. Nominations are open now until June 1, 2022 for individuals representing diverse perspectives with expertise in GME, MUA/P, and/or health care policy/governance. Members (designated institutional officials, program directors, and senior clinical executive leaders) and public members will serve up to three-year initial terms with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. Resident/fellow members will serve two-year terms. Self-nominations are accepted.

The Clinician Educator Milestones are a joint effort of the ACGME, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, Association of American Medical Colleges, and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. This series of subcompetencies is designed to aid in the development and improvement of teaching and learning skills across the continuum of medical education.
The Clinician Educator Milestones are currently in a pilot phase. The Clinician Educator Milestones are not an ACGME accreditation requirement and are not intended to become one in the future.

Publishing in the "On Teaching" Category: Powerful Creative Writing
Creative writing in the On Teaching category is an important feature in JGME. It allows people in the GME community to tell their stories and connect. In this episode, three members of the Editorial Board, Drs. Gail Sullivan, Lainie Yarris, and Rachel Gottlieb-Smith, share advice for compelling writing, getting published, and On Teaching papers that have stuck with them over the years.

Registration for the spring 2022 ACGME faculty development course is open! Led by ACGME senior staff members and selected expert instructors from around the country, Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment helps participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship programs. Offered virtually, sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including virtual simulations, to provide participants with approaches and tools for effective assessment.
The six-day intensive, virtual course will be held May 15-20, 2022, from 1:00-5:30 p.m. Central each day. For details and to register, visit the Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment page on the ACGME website.
The following Review Committee is seeking its next public member for a six-year term beginning July 1, 2023. these members share the perspective of the public, foster public accountability, enrich the work of the Committee through outside expertise, and create transparency. While nominees cannot be physicians, other health care professionals are permitted if they are not employed by an organization with ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship programs.

The following Review Committees seeks nomination for their next resident member positions. Nominees must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship program at the time of the appointment and may not serve more than one year beyond completion of that residency or fellowship. After review and consideration of all nominees, the Review Committee will forward its selection to the ACGME Board of Directors for approval. Terms begin July 1, 2023 and end June 30, 2025.

As part of the 10-year major revision process to the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Dermatopathology , the ACGME is soliciting feedback from the community.
The process starts with general feedback on the current set of Requirements, which can be accessed from the Program Requirements and FAQs and Applications page of the Dermatology section of the ACGME website. During this 30-day review process comments must be limited to the subspecialty-specific requirement language (regular text), as the Common Program Requirements (bold text) are not up for revision; any comments relating to the Common Program Requirements will not be considered in the process.

Due to the large number of changes to dedicated time that will become effective July 1, 2022, the Selected Topics Across Program Requirements documents for Coordinator Dedicated Time, Core Faculty Dedicated Time, and Program Leadership Dedicated Time have been updated early to allow Sponsoring Institutions to view the approved and proposed dedicated time requirements for all specialties/subspecialties they sponsor. Note that many specialties/subspecialties are scheduled for review at the ACGME Board of Directors' June 2022 meeting, and those revisions have not yet been approved. These specialties are noted as "Proposed" in the documents and are still subject to change. These documents will be updated immediately following the June ACGME Board meeting with the finalized dedicated time language for all specialties/subspecialties.

The Review Committee developed a specialty-specific block diagram template to highlight the necessary components of a program’s curriculum and organization. The new block diagram template is posted on the Documents and Resources page of the Neurological Surgery section of the ACGME website and in the Specialty Instructions link in the ADS "Sites" tab.
Programs are encouraged to use the Neurological Surgery Block Diagram template for the Annual ADS Update, as well as all complement increase and participating site change requests submitted as of April 8, 2022.
