ACGME Launches ACGME Equity Matters® Resource Collection to Support DEI Goals in GME

October 31, 2024

The ACGME is proud to share the ACGME Equity Matters® Resource Collection, a comprehensive and dynamic set of resources designed to assist Sponsoring Institutions, programs, and specialty organizations in achieving their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals.

The Resource Collection is tailored to help organizations implement effective changes to diversify the workforce and foster inclusive learning environments. It is built from the input of the graduate medical education (GME) community, showcasing practical approaches currently being implemented to address DEI challenges. Offering a wide-ranging array of strategies, the Resource Collection serves as a valuable tool intended to:

  • improve health care outcomes by providing structured, easy to use approaches to enhancing and improving DEI;
  • promote health equity by sharing strategies to diversify the physician workforce and foster inclusive learning environments; and,
  • create shared language for DEI efforts within the GME community related to the ACGME’s Common Program Requirements

This resource aims to improve the recruitment and retention of residents, fellows, and faculty members; support institutional pathway initiatives; and enhance personnel practices to develop inclusive and equitable environments. The ACGME Equity Matters® Resource Collection has been meticulously developed from established ideas and approaches within the GME community. Contributions include insights from Sponsoring Institutions and programs during their ACGME Annual Updates; strategies from participants in ACGME Equity Matters Learning Communities; abstracts and presentations from ACGME Annual Educational Conferences; comprehensive literature reviews; and approaches from applications for the ACGME Barbara Ross-Lee, DO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award.

The Resource Collection is part of a broader suite of tools and resources offered by the ACGME to support organizations in their DEI efforts. It can serve as a foundation for individual organizations’ educational programming or as a supplement to existing DEI initiatives. While the ACGME does not endorse any specific tool or resource, it is committed to providing open access to this and other DEI resources for the benefit of the entire GME community. This initiative underscores the ACGME’s dedication to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in medical education.

You can access the ACGME Equity Matters® Resource Collection through the ACGME’s digital learning platform, Learn at ACGME.
