Dr. Thomas J. Nasca Receives Distinguished Service Award from The Federation of State Medical Boards

ACGME President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Thomas J. Nasca received the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) 2020 Distinguished Service Award recognizing “the highest level of service, commitment and contribution to the FSMB; the advancement of the profession of medical licensure and discipline; and the strengthening and enhancement of public protection.”

Coalition for Physician Accountability’s UME to GME Review Committee Seeking Public Comment on New Recommendations

The Coalition for Physician Accountability formed a committee to work on recommending solutions to identified challenges in the UME-GME transition. The draft is now available for public comment through May 26, 2021.

The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS®), and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME®) has announced a change in the process for recognition of non-standard training as it relates to the J-1 visa program administered by ECFMG.

The Coalition for Physician Accountability has released an update to its Jan. 25 recommendations on medical student away rotations in the 2021-22 academic year. The recommendations are an update to earlier guidance published on May 11, 2020.

ACGME Releases CLER Findings for Operative and Procedural Areas

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is pleased to present the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Report of Findings 2021: Subprotocol for Operative and Procedural Areas. The CLER Program provides leaders of hospitals, medical centers, and other clinical settings with formative feedback through site visits that explore six Focus Areas: Patient Safety; Health Care Quality; Care Transitions; Supervision; Well-Being; and Professionalism.

The ACGME partnered with other medical organizations to create a toolkit to help learners transition from medical school to residency during COVID-19. The toolkit aids programs preparing for new learners and students entering residency.
