Following the interim revision of the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Nuclear Medicine that went into effect on July 1, 2024, there are now fewer required radioiodine therapies for benign and malignant thyroid disorders, and a higher required number of parenteral therapies.
The minimum total number of therapies (parenteral plus radioiodine) remains the same at 35. The changes were made to align the standards with revisions in the American Board of Nuclear Medicine's requirements to sit for the board exam and allow more flexibility for programs to meet the standards.
The Nuclear Medicine Minimum report, available as a Specialty-Specific Report under the Case Logs tab in the Accreditation Data System (ADS), will soon be updated to reflect the changes in minimum required procedure numbers.

Bani M. Ratan, MD, EdD; Sherita J. Love, PhD, MEd; Anna E. Rueda, MD; Glenn C. Bridges, MEd; Wesley A. Mayer, MD; Mark J. Harbott, MD, MHA; Teri L. Turner, MD, MPH, MEd
The increasing use of e-learning has changed the ability to adequately prepare residents for their teaching roles. This study, which included 21 accredited residency programs and 277 PGY-1 residents across all specialties, developed and evaluated an interactive e-learning module aimed at enhancing teaching skills. The authors found that an e-learning approach can effectively provide teaching skills to a broad audience of medical residents.

By the end of their educational program, residents must know which patient safety events to report, how to report these events, and how to participate in interprofessional patient safety activities. In this New Ideas article, a 12-month quality improvement initiative was shown to increase recognition and reporting of safety events by learners and faculty physicians from a baseline average of five events filed per month to an average of 30 per month.
Securing the Basics: Longitudinal Tracking and Accounting for Trainees in a Multi-Affiliate Site Graduate Medical Education Program
Mark Harbott, MD, MHA; Adrian Correa, MHA; Caroline Hubbard, MBA; Kendra Crowder, MBA; Nital P. Appelbaum, PhD
This New Ideas article describes a new reporting system at Baylor College of Medicine that used interdisciplinary collaboration to solve the costly problem of receiving urgent requests from affiliate hospitals to either pay back or rectify accounting errors. This system reduced the amount of time it took to identify potential overbilling issues from approximately 50 hours to just a few hours, and the amount reportedly owed by 90 percent.
This course is designed to help participants build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship. Sessions are highly interactive and use multiple learning approaches, including simulation practice, peer consultations, and application exercises to provide participants with methods and tools for effective assessment. The course also provides a roadmap for developing an assessment system to assist participants in implementing changes within their own institution.
To give participants maximum opportunity to participate, absorb, and apply course content, the fall/winter course is offered over two, three-day sessions:
Participants register once and attend both sessions.
Email questions to Director, Faculty Development and Special Projects Kate Hatlak .
