Bruce A. Metz, PhD, CHCIO will join the ACGME as its first Chief Information Officer (CIO) in January 2020. Dr. Metz will lead creation of an organization-wide information services strategy and oversee the Applications and Data Analysis and Network Services teams. He will be responsible for developing an information architecture to support enhanced data collection and analyses, data sharing agreements with national databases, and strategic research efforts, and will look to incorporate emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

Nasca, MD, MACP, ACGME president and chief executive officer. “A recognized expert in technology-based innovation, Dr. Metz has extensive experience providing strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for all aspects of information systems and technology, including the creation of new digital business models.”

Dr. Metz comes to the ACGME with more than 25 years of experience as CIO for prominent organizations in health care and higher education, including his current role at the University of Connecticut Health Center, a premier public academic medical center. He previously served as CIO for Lahey Health, Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson University Physicians, and Tufts University.
Dr. Metz has received awards for leadership and innovation, including Becker’s Hospital Review 100 CIOs to Know and Computerworld Premier 100 Top IT Leaders. He is a frequent presenter at national and regional forums on topics related to current and future health care IT trends, opportunities, and challenges.
He is a certified healthcare CIO, as well as a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the American Medical Informatics Association, and the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Information Resources. He has served on a number of advisory boards including the Health IT Advisory Council for the State of Connecticut, and previously held an appointment as an adjunct professor in leadership and organizational change at the Tufts University Gordon Institute.
Dr. Metz received his undergraduate degree in industrial and management engineering from Columbia University, and his Master’s degree in organizational development and PhD in applied psychology from New York University.
